Intensive Care Unit Travel Nursing Jobs
What is Intensive Care Nursing? (ICU Nursing)
Intensive care unit (ICU) nursing covers a large swath of nursing such as surgical, medical, neurological, cardiovascular, and burn units. ICU nurses are highly specialized and usually take care of fewer patients as compared to medical surgical nurses. However the ICU patients tend to be much sicker and complex than those patients on medical surgical floors. Generally, ICU nurses are familiar with such specialized equipment such as ventilators and Swan Ganz catheters. ICU nurses play a large role in assessing patients, planning patient care, implementing patient care and evaluating the outcomes of the desired care plans.
ICU Travel Nursing Jobs Outlook:
Virtually all hospitals require a minimum of two years ICU experience before they will consider accepting an ICU travel nurse. There is a tremendous demand nationwide for experienced ICU travel nurses. Some intensive care units are so specialized that they will require prior experience in a similar ICU environment before they will consider the nurse. Cardiovascular (fresh open hearts) are an example of this type of highly specialized unit.
