Dialysis Travel Nursing Jobs

What is Dialysis Nursing?

There can be two types of dialysis nurses: those that perform hemodialysis and those that perform peritoneal dialysis. Virtually all travel nurses seeking to work in the dialysis unit are required to have experience in hemodialysis. Some of the responsibilities of a hemodialysis nurse are:

  • Checking the patients' vital signs and talking with them to assess their condition
  • Teaching patients about their disease and its treatment and answering any questions
  • Overseeing the dialysis treatment from start to finish
  • Making sure patients are given the correct medications ordered by their doctors
  • Evaluating patients' reaction to the dialysis treatment and medications
  • Reviewing the patients' lab work, home medications and activities and letting the doctors know about changes in their patients' conditions

Dialysis Travel Nursing Jobs Outlook:

Needs for travel dialysis nurses tend to be moderate nationally. Nurses that tend to be accepted for dialysis travel assignments usually have experience in both acute and chronic hemodialysis. There are travel opportunities but locations can be sporadic. As such most successful travel dialysis nurses need to be flexible on locations.
